The Beehive plans to release a discussion document on the taxation of cross-border services provided by foreign companies. The OECD is currently developing an international tax solution in this area, but the Beehive says it wants to move ahead with an interim solution as Australia is doing.
The Beehive says: The value of cross-border digital services in New Zealand is estimated to be around $2.7 billion. We are determined to ensure that multinational companies involved in this sector of the economy pay their fair share of tax. Our revenue estimate for a digital services tax is between $30 million and $80 million, which depends on how it is designed. Public release of the discussion document is expected by May 2019.
